Thousands of islands, delicious sushi, extreme natural hazards and the crowded city of Tokyo: this is what Japan makes me think of. My name is Simone ten Have, I am 23 years old and I thoroughly enjoy studying in the field of Civil Engineering & Management, with a focus on Transport Engineering. I am especially interested in mobility, transport and sustainability challenges that we currently face – and how to learn to solve or reduce them. I signed up for the Study Tour to Japan because it will help me get acquainted with civil engineering in another part of the world. I am very excited to explore a new culture and environment in Japan, which I believe is one of the most intriguing countries in the world when it comes to new technologies. Before, I have made longer trips to New-Zealand, Indonesia, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile, all showing incredible differences in the way things work in a certain place. I really enjoy travelling but also when at home I am always curious and interested to learn. After the Study Tour, I hope to have found a nice project for my master thesis with which I will finish my master’s degree. Until then, courses and the Study Tour await!
